The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has requested information on the bank accounts of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana, and the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Trust. A letter sent to banks last week stated that Sheikh Hasina chairs the trust, while Sheikh Rehana serves as a trustee. Banks have been directed to submit transaction records, account opening forms, and other related details within five working days. The BFIU has also sought similar information on the accounts of television commentator Chowdhury Jafarullah Sarafat, his brother Chowdhury Habibullah Sarafat, and sister Dalia Chowdhury. This inquiry is part of the agency’s anti-money laundering efforts, aiming to ensure transparency and accountability in financial transactions.
