The Bangladesh Frozen Foods Exporters Association (BFFEA) has urged the government to raise the dollar exchange rate for frozen shrimp and fish exports from Tk 118.90 to Tk 125.50. In a letter to the finance ministry, BFFEA highlighted rising costs, including high loan interest rates, electricity bills, and packaging expenses, which are straining exporters. The sector, exporting to 55 countries, has long contributed to the economy by earning foreign exchange and generating rural employment. However, exports fell to $376 million in FY24 from $421 million in FY23. BFFEA argues that adjusting the dollar rate is crucial for competitiveness and sustainability.
