Adani Power has agreed to fully restore its 1,600 MW power supply to Bangladesh within days after a three-month partial shutdown due to payment delays caused by Bangladesh’s forex crisis. Supply was halved on October 31, leading to the shutdown of one unit. As summer demand approaches, the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) requested full resumption, which Adani agreed to, but the company refused Bangladesh’s demands for discounts and tax benefits worth millions. BPDB is trying to increase payments beyond $85 million monthly, with disputed outstanding dues estimated between $650 million and $900 million. A virtual meeting on Tuesday failed to secure concessions, and discussions are ongoing. Adani Power maintains its stance based on the power purchase agreement, rejecting further discounts. BPDB Chairperson Md. Rezaul Karim stated that power supply issues have been resolved. Adani insists supply depends on demand, which varies periodically.
