Japan is contributing an additional $3.2 million to enhance food security in Bangladesh’s communities severely impacted by Cyclone Remal and floods in 2024, which affected nearly 18 million people. This funding will aid both immediate food needs and long-term recovery, particularly in rebuilding infrastructure such as roads, embankments, and bridges in the hardest-hit districts, including Khulna, Satkhira, and Cumilla. The initiative is expected to directly benefit 500,000 people. Japan’s previous support since September 2023 includes $1 million in flood relief through UNHCR and UNICEF, $2 million in emergency aid via Japan Platform, and a $3.2 million agreement with IOM for further flood recovery. Japan’s ongoing commitment to Bangladesh’s disaster resilience is reflected in this continued humanitarian effort.
