Canada has allocated $272.1 million in foreign aid for Bangladesh and the Indo-Pacific region, focusing on healthcare, women’s empowerment, and climate change initiatives. This funding supports 14 projects in the region, with a significant emphasis on gender equality, sexual and reproductive health, and inclusive education. One notable project, “Empowering Women in the Nursing Sector,” received a $6.3 million boost over three years. This move contrasts sharply with the USAID’s shutdown under the Trump administration, which froze foreign aid for 90 days, citing inefficiency and political concerns. Canada’s aid strategy aims to strengthen ties with Bangladesh and the Indo-Pacific while addressing global challenges like poverty and climate change. This funding announcement was made by Canada’s Minister of International Development, Ahmed Hussen, and British Columbia MP Parm Bains at a Vancouver event attended by the Bangladeshi-Canadian community, which now exceeds 100,000 people.
