North-West Power Generation Company, a BPDB enterprise, is set to develop an 80MW solar power plant in the Padma Bridge project area, aligning with the government’s renewable energy vision. The company signed a 30-year lease with Bangladesh Bridges Authority (BBA) for 180 acres in October 2024, with land handed over the same month. The estimated project cost is Tk871.56 crore ($71.44 million), with completion targeted for 2027. Funding includes a Tk704.31 crore foreign loan, Tk33.57 crore from government funds, and Tk133.67 crore from the company’s own resources. The project’s levelized tariff is projected at $0.0752 USD/kWh, lower than recent solar PV projects. A feasibility study is underway to finalize the design, layout, and cost structure before DPP submission. North-West Power is also working on solar projects, including the Sirajganj 6.55MW and 68MW solar plants, and seeking new sites for expansion.
