Benapole, Bangladesh’s busiest land port, recorded a 13.19% revenue growth despite a decline in imports. For FY25, the customs house targeted Tk6,705 crore in revenue, with Tk4,453.31 crore expected in the first eight months. However, the actual collection reached Tk4,661.92 crore, exceeding the target by Tk208.61 crore. Imports declined by 19,020.82 tonnes, but revenue gains were driven by measures like curbing tax evasion, streamlining operations, and establishing an Investigation, Research, and Management (IRM) division in January. While export volume dropped 6.89%, total export value rose by 28.07%. Key imports include industrial raw materials, garments, and chemicals, while exports consist of jute products, melamine, and fish. Customs reforms, tighter regulations, and 24/7 port operations have boosted efficiency and revenue collection.
