The National Board of Revenue (NBR) in Bangladesh is set to introduce tax return preparers (TRPs) who will be allowed to prepare and submit tax returns with incentives starting from July 1. TRPs will receive incentives based on the amount of tax collected, ranging from 10% for minimum tax to 0.5% for the remaining amount. These incentives will be applicable for the first five tax years to encourage start-up taxpayers. The NBR has issued a rule outlining the process and will accept recommendations from stakeholders until June 25. TRPs must apply for enlistment through the NBR or supporting organizations. Privacy of taxpayers’ information is crucial, and legal actions may be taken for any breach. TRPs will be provided with a unique identification number (UIN) and must pass a tax aptitude and accounting test if they lack a recognized degree in relevant fields.
