Ahsan Khan Chowdhury, the chairman and CEO of Pran-RFL Group, highlighted the significant increase in agricultural production in Bangladesh due to the higher public expenditure in the sector during the 2022-23 fiscal year. He emphasized the need to continue allocating funds for agriculture to sustain this progress and jumpstart the economy and praised the government for raising the allocation for the farm sector to Tk 24,224 crore, a 50% increase compared to the previous year. He also commended the corporate tax cut, stating that further reductions would incentivize investment and encourage foreign investors to invest in Bangladesh.
He called for an investment-friendly budget to create jobs, reduce economic downturns, and promote extensive investment. He mentioned that some tax measures had negative effects, such as the imposition of a 5% VAT on locally made refrigerators, which hindered the domestic manufacturing sector. Pran-RFL Group, with over 100,000 contract farmers, provided suggestions for facilitating exports, including bonded warehouse benefits and eased rules for importing raw materials.
