In a recent Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) meeting, nine out of eighteen approved projects underwent cost revisions, indicating a trend towards the end of the financial year 2022-2023. The original cost of these projects, amounting to Tk9,308 crore, has now risen to Tk23,978 crore.
Notably, the Chattogram City Outer Ring Road project experienced its fourth cost increase, reaching Tk3,324 crore from its initial Tk856 crore. Conversely, the Ashrayan 2 project saw a reduction of Tk2343 crore in its fifth revision due to decreased paved barracks. Project modifications during implementation stages are common, attributed to design shortcomings and material cost fluctuations. Among the revised projects are the Patuakhli Medical College and Hospital construction, the Bangladesh Regional Connectivity Project, and the establishment of the National Development Administration Academy.
