Foreign investment in the country’s capital market has been steadily declining for several years, with the amount of shares bought by foreign investors surpassing the shares sold. In 2022, foreign investment decreased by over $391.7 million . The previous year, the investment dropped to $70.32 million. Market officials attribute this decline to factors such as poor governance, lack of confidence, rising dollar prices, share manipulation, and increased violence by manipulators. Transaction data reveals that foreigners bought shares worth 3,786 crore 91 lakh taka and sold shares worth 8,1738 crore taka, indicating a significant increase in share sales compared to purchases. Additionally, restrictions on buying and selling shares at the right time due to floor prices have hindered market participation.
