The dollar crisis is persisting despite the reduction of imports due to various strictures. Therefore, Bangladesh Bank is continuing to sell dollars from foreign currency reserves to manage the market. On June 12, 75 million dollars were sold to some banks. With this, the sales amount exceeded 13 billion dollars in 11 months and 12 days of the current financial year.
Earlier, the central bank sold a maximum of 7.62 million dollars in the fiscal year 2021-22 according to Bangladesh Bank. The deficit in the overall balance of transactions with foreign countries has increased to 8.8 billion dollars in the 10 months of the current financial year till last April. The deficit was $5.29 billion in the corresponding period of the previous financial year. In this situation, the central bank has continued to sell dollars despite the decrease in reserves so that no banks fail to pay import liabilities. Consequently, foreign currency reserves decreased to 29.77 billion dollars at the end of June 7. On the same day last year, it was 41.82 billion dollars.
