The interbank exchange rate for the US dollar in Bangladesh has reached a new milestone, climbing to Tk109 from Tk108.70. This marks the highest price ever recorded for the greenback in the current market, according to data from the central bank. The dollar traded between Tk108.03 and Tk109 on Wednesday, with the previous highest rate of Tk108.75 observed on 23 May. The increase in remittance rates has been cited as the main factor behind the rise in the interbank dollar rate. Currently, the remittance dollar rate stands at Tk108.50, surpassing the interbank rate. In response, the Association of Bankers Bangladesh and Bangladesh Foreign Exchange Dealers’ Association raised the remittance dollar rate to Tk108.50 on 31 May. This upward trend in the interbank exchange rate underscores the impact of remittances and highlights the evolving dynamics of the foreign exchange market.
