The cabinet department has established a high-level committee, according to a recent notification, to develop guidelines for the procurement of edible oil based on demand. Led by the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister as convener and the Joint Secretary (Imports and Domestic Trade) of the Ministry of Commerce as the Member Secretary, the committee’s main tasks include evaluating the feasibility of long-term agreements with international and domestic suppliers for edible oil procurement at Tariff Commission-fixed prices. The committee will then formulate procurement guidelines aligned with the annual demand.
Its members consist of the Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Chairman of the Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission, Additional Secretary (Import and Domestic Trade) of the Ministry of Commerce, Chairman of the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), Chief Controller of Imports and Exports, President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), Director General of the Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU), and Directors and Additional Secretaries from the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources. The committee aims to submit its report to the Ministry of Commerce within 30 days, with flexibility to include additional members if required.
