Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi expressed his concerns about the slow decline in prices of daily necessities and highlighted the exploitation of certain businessmen in the process. He emphasized the importance of taking action against unscrupulous traders to protect consumer rights, including fines and sealing of companies found hoarding illegal stocks. He noted the reduction in prices of Indian onions and expected a similar decline in domestic onion prices. He addressed the price increase of spices during Eid and assured that consumer rights organizations would intervene to control the situation.
The government is closely monitoring the spice prices to maintain acceptable levels and prevent price manipulation by dishonest traders. The Minister acknowledged the need for a balanced approach between taking action against businessmen and safeguarding the interests of the common people. He announced plans to distribute 5 kilograms of rice, along with oil and pulses, to one crore families (approximately 10 million) through the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh, benefiting around five crore people (approximately 50 million).
