Bangladesh has entered into a new Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) with Oman to import an additional 0.25 to 1.5 million metric tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) annually for ten years, starting from 2026. The deal was signed between Petrobangla, Bangladesh’s state-owned gas company, and Oman Trading International. Under the agreement, Oman will supply the additional LNG on a long-term basis until 2035. This new deal expands Bangladesh’s existing LNG agreements with Qatar and Oman. With these new contracts, the country’s long-term LNG import capacity is expected to reach 7.3 million tonnes per annum by 2026. Bangladesh heavily relies on imported LNG for its power generation, and the increased imports will help meet the growing demand for natural gas in the country.
