The farmers in the Jamalpur district have reaped significant financial benefits from a bumper Boro paddy harvest this year. According to the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), the farmers achieved a total yield of 561,245 tonnes of paddy from 128,590 hectares of land. The high-yield variety accounted for 309,564 tonnes, the high-breed variety contributed 251,144 tonnes, and the local variety amounted to 537 tonnes.
Farmers in different upazilas expressed their satisfaction with the bumper production and fair prices. Kudrat Ullah, a farmer from Ghoradhap village in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila, shared his success story of obtaining 24 mounds (40 kg) of high-breed paddy per Bigha of land and selling it at Tk 1040 per maund in the local market.
The DAE attributed the successful harvest to various factors such as the government’s efforts to ensure the availability of Boro seeds, fertilizers, irrigation, electricity, and other agricultural inputs. Additionally, the cultivation of short-duration crop varieties and motivational activities conducted by the agriculture department played a significant role in achieving the bumper production, as stated by Deputy Director Zakia Sultana.
