A vessel carrying 65,020 tonnes of coal from Indonesia has arrived at the Matarbari coal-fired power plant in Cox’s Bazar’s Maheshkhali. The Cyprus-flagged MV LMZ ATLAS was successfully docked at the power plant’s jetty by the Chittagong Port Authority. The coal is intended for the Matarbari Ultra Super Critical Coal-Fired Power Project. Using advanced technology, the coal will be unloaded from the ship via a conveyor belt, a process expected to take around four days to complete. This recent shipment brings the total amount of coal delivered to the thermal power plant to 366,000 tonnes over the past three months. The Matarbari Ultra Super Critical Coal-Fired Power Project, with a capacity of 1,200 MW, is being implemented by the Coal Power Generation Company Bangladesh Limited. Storing coal is nearly finished, and power generation is currently undergoing testing before the commissioning process begins.
