The government has decided to import eight liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes in July, matching the quantity imported in June, in order to fulfill the energy requirements of industries and power plants. State-run Petrobangla will import two LNG cargoes from the spot market, while six cargoes will be sourced from long-term suppliers. The long-term cargoes include four from Qatargas and two from OQ Trading. In addition, Bangladesh aims to import a total of 21 spot market LNG cargoes in 2023. The country’s natural gas supply currently stands at around 2.47 billion cubic feet per day, including approximately 711 million cubic feet per day of re-gasified LNG. This move to import LNG follows a seven-month pause and a significant increase in natural gas prices. Despite payment delays totaling over $200 million, both long-term and spot LNG supplies continue.
