The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs of Bangladesh has granted preliminary approval to state-owned Petrobangla’s proposal to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Malaysia. The Malaysian company, Perintis Akal Sdn Bhd, will supply 1 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of LNG under a 15-year contract. This deal marks Bangladesh’s selection of Malaysia as its third long-term LNG supplier, alongside Qatar and Oman. The move aims to address the country’s growing energy demands, with Bangladesh currently facing a gas shortfall of about 1,000 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD).
