The Energy and Mineral Resources Division’s Budget Wing has urged the Finance Division to organize an inter-ministerial meeting to address Petrobangla’s inability to pay Tk 20,033 crore in value-added tax (VAT) and supplementary duty (SD) dues. The state-owned company, facing a financial crunch, has been unable to clear its dues to the Large Taxpayers Unit (LTU) under the National Board of Revenue (NBR). Despite previous recommendations and requests, no action has been taken by the Finance Division. Petrobangla attributes its financial strain to low-income, expensive LNG imports with subsidies, annual losses, system losses, and corruption. The company seeks resolution and necessary funds to clear its outstanding dues.
