Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina addressed the UN Food Systems Summit+2 Stocktaking Moment in Rome, urging the international community to implement inclusive and sustainable food management for all. She highlighted the global challenges of hunger and malnutrition, exacerbated by crises like the Ukraine war and sanctions. The summit’s theme focused on “Sustainable Food Systems for People, Planet, and Prosperity.” PM Hasina proposed five measures, including investment in modern agriculture by multilateral development banks and private entrepreneurs, removing trade barriers on food and fertilizer exports, establishing global and regional “food banks” for emergencies, promoting advanced agricultural technologies, and engaging young people in combating food waste. She also showcased Bangladesh’s success in achieving food self-sufficiency and becoming a food surplus country through various initiatives and agricultural innovations.
