Load shedding in Bangladesh has escalated to 1,000 to 1,300 megawatts during peak hours due to a heat wave across the country. On July 23, load shedding ranged from 700 to 1,500 MW per hour. The Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) reported a power demand projection of 14,000 MW during the day and 15,000 MW at night, but load shedding continued to impact the power supply. While Dhaka witnessed minimal load shedding, areas outside the capital, including Gazipur, Mymensingh, Netrakona, Jessore, Khulna, Bagerhat, and Satkhira, experienced severe load shedding. The situation worsened in the Sylhet region due to grid failures, leading to power plants with a capacity of around 7,000 MW not being in production. Technical faults and an energy crisis have resulted in the shutdown of several furnace oil-based power plants and difficulties in importing fuel.
