bKash and Pragati Life Insurance Ltd have revealed their plans to introduce digital banks, joining the growing trend of leveraging technology to enhance financial services and promote financial inclusion in Bangladesh. Brac Bank, a co-owner of bKash, announced its decision to establish “bKash Digital Bank PLC,” which will offer branchless banking services through mobile apps and desktop websites, pending approval from the Bangladesh Bank.
bKash, launched in 2011, has 7 crore verified customers and has been involved in digital lending and savings schemes. Pragati Life Insurance will invest 10 percent of its paid-up capital in “Pragati Digital Bank.”The global digital banking market is projected to reach $30.75 billion by 2027, with a 19 percent annual growth rate.
