The Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) prepaid metering project in Cumilla and Mymensingh zones, initially planned for 2.5 years, has stretched over 10 years. The progress rate remains below 30%. The project, with a budget of Tk 132 crore, aimed to install 1,50,575 prepaid meters (1,46,000 single-phase meters and 4,575 three-phase meters). However, it has only achieved 35% actual progress. A total of Tk 34.27 lakh has been disbursed during various fiscal years until May 2023. The financial progress of the project stands at 20.75%. Delays in approving the Detailed Project Proposal (DPP) and complexities in consultant appointments contributed to the sluggish progress. The project faced disputes with the consulting firm Fichtner/UDS, leading to further delays. Overall, the project’s duration was extended due to various factors, causing significant time and cost overruns.
