Prime Minister inaugurated Teesta Solar Ltd, a 200-megawatt (MW) solar power plant, marking the highest renewable resource-focused power generation capacity of a single facility in Bangladesh. The project, built by Beximco Power Ltd., required an investment of $300 million and spans 650 acres of sedimentation-formed land in Sundarganj upazila, Gaibandha district. The plant is set to supply 200MW of electricity to the national grid daily. Beximco Power Limited’s chairman emphasized the significance of the renewable energy sector and revealed the company’s plans for additional solar power plants in alignment with government initiatives. Notably, Beximco Power financed the Teesta Solar project through the first sukuk bond of the private sector in the country, adhering to Islamic finance principles.
