The National Board of Revenue (NBR) in Bangladesh faces obstacles in attracting businesses to adopt the fully-automated electronic tax deducted at source (e-TDS) system. Approximately 300,000 entities currently pay source tax manually, while only 7,310 entities, mainly private companies, are registered with e-TDS. Lack of promotional campaigns and inadequate training contribute to the reluctance. NBR aims to digitize tax deposition for revenue growth and evasion reduction. While e-TDS collected Tk 1,421 crore in the last fiscal year, its potential is seen to be much higher. Experts emphasize the need for intensifying promotional efforts and addressing systemic issues to facilitate wider e-TDS adoption.
