Yarn consumption in Bangladesh’s apparel sector plummeted by 31.55%, with local factories purchasing 373,080 tonnes less of yarn in H2 FY2022-23 compared to the previous year. This drastic drop is attributed to the ongoing global economic crisis and the Russia-Ukraine conflict’s impact, resulting in fewer orders. Despite increased earnings from high-value clothing exports, the ready-made garment (RMG) industry is grappling with a steady decline in order volumes, impacting yarn consumption. The decline in demand is reflected in yarn imports, which decreased by 36.17%, totaling 234,685 tonnes less in H1 FY2022-23. This scenario underscores the challenges faced by the textile sector in sustaining growth and adapting to changing market dynamics.
