Nepal, India, and Bangladesh have reached a preliminary understanding to supply electricity from Nepal to Bangladesh via an Indian transmission line. A formal agreement is anticipated to be signed soon, according to Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) officials. In the initial phase, Nepal plans to export 40 MW of electricity to Bangladesh, with the latter aiming to purchase up to 9,000 MW in the long term. While Power Purchase Document terms have been agreed upon through email, tariff and trade margin details are yet to be finalized. This strategic tripartite cooperation is poised to facilitate cross-border power trading and benefit all three nations’ energy sectors.
