Despite Bangladesh’s gradual efforts to embrace electric vehicles (EVs), sluggish sales persist due to high pricing amplified by import duties and registration costs. However, the growing global awareness of environmental and economic advantages will likely drive demand for alternative-fuel cars, eventually propelling EVs into the local market. Approximately 70 units from renowned brands like Tesla, Audi, and Porsche have been registered since the introduction of EV registration in September 2022. The nation is working on “Electric Vehicle Charging Guidelines” to establish a broad charging station network. Despite challenges, Progress Motors introduced Audi EVs, delivering 36 units to date. Mercedes-Benz and Tata Motors also plan EV releases. Price remains a concern, with global EV prices averaging higher than conventional vehicles. Nonetheless, the International Energy Association foresees global EV sales reaching 14 million units by year-end, reflecting increasing consumer interest.
