The Power Division and Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) are facing uncertainty regarding the tariff of electricity from the 1200 MW first unit of the Rooppur nuclear power plant, which is set to begin production in 2024. Discussions with the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) on tariff calculations have been challenging, as the BAEC has been reluctant to share cost data. The first unit of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is expected to start operation in the last quarter of 2024. While initial estimates suggested a tariff of around $0.04 per kilowatt hour, local power tariff experts anticipate it could be higher, potentially exceeding $0.08-0.10 per unit.
