The National Board of Revenue (NBR) reports a 22% increase in Value Added Tax (VAT) collection during the first month (July) of the current fiscal year (FY 2023-2024), reaching Tk 7,654 crore compared to Tk 6,299 crore in July last year. The Large Taxpayers’ Unit (LTU) VAT Commissionerate leads with Tk 3,561 crore, growing by 31.86%. Other Commissionerates also show double-digit growth. The tobacco sector contributes the most to VAT with Tk 1,211 crore, growing by 25.92%, followed by sweetmeat shops with 28%. In July, NBR’s overall revenue collection, including income tax and customs, increased by 15.38%, with the Customs Department witnessing a 13.70% growth and the Income Tax Department a 9.65% growth.
