The government, through the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), has distributed incentives to 3,850 small-scale farmers across all seven upazilas of the district Manikganj. These incentives aim to stimulate the cultivation of black gram. Each recipient received 5 kilograms of black gram seeds for planting, as well as one Bigha of land and free fertilizers, including 10 kilograms of Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and 10 kilograms of Muriate of Potash (MOP).
This effort is part of the Department of Agriculture Extension’s plan to cultivate black gram on 6,712 hectares of land in the district, with a production target of 7,048 tonnes during the current season.
Deputy Director of the DAE emphasized the district’s favorable soil conditions, particularly in the Char areas, for black gram cultivation. Cultivation has already commenced in these Char areas, benefiting from the absence of floods or excessive rainwater. Manikganj stands out as an area with abundant black gram growth.
