Khatungonj has witnessed a substantial decline in trading activity in the past month, resulting in a noteworthy price drop. For instance, soybean and palm oil prices have plunged by at least 500 taka per maund (approximately 32 kilograms) during this period. This downward trend can be attributed to a return to stability in the global edible oil market, alongside a significant reduction in demand despite ample supply.
Notably, the price of soybean oil per maund in Khatungonj currently stands at 5,800 taka, down from nearly 7,500 taka at the beginning of the year. Moreover, the widespread use of the Supply Order (SO) method for edible oil procurement has intensified competition among wholesalers, contributing to the decline in prices. To mitigate this situation, the Ministry of Commerce is evaluating proposals to revise edible oil prices following global price adjustments, which will ultimately be determined by importers and refiners.
