Inflation Expected to Decrease to 6.6% in FY24

Economic Tag: Inflation

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has projected that Bangladesh’s inflation will ease to 6.6 percent in the current fiscal year 2023-2024. The global lender came up with the projection in its updated report on “Asian Development Outlook (ADO) September 2023.” It expects inflation to decrease from 9.0 percent in FY2023 to 6.6 percent in FY2024 due to lower global nonfuel commodity prices, expected growth in agricultural production, and the initiation of a tighter monetary policy framework.

ADB emphasizes that the government is managing well amid external economic uncertainties and is advancing infrastructure development and key reforms to enhance the investment climate. These structural reforms include strengthening public financial management, boosting domestic resource mobilization, improving logistics, and deepening the financial sector. Such reforms are crucial for private sector development, export diversification, and job creation, with a focus on expanding domestic renewable energy supply to address high oil prices and meet climate change goals.
