BD Mobile Internet Speed 73% Slower Than India

Bangladesh’s Digital Quality of Life (DQL) Index ranking has declined, now standing at 82nd out of 121 nations, a drop of six positions from the previous year 2022. Fixed internet speed averages 53 Mbps, much slower than Singapore’s 300 Mbps, while mobile internet is at 20 Mbps, with the UAE having the fastest at 310 Mbps. Internet quality in Bangladesh remains 5% below the global average. Compared to India, Bangladesh’s mobile internet is 73% slower, and its fixed broadband lags behind by 31%. However, there have been improvements since last year, with mobile internet speed increasing by 41% and fixed broadband by 23%.

Internet affordability is a concern, with Bangladeshis needing 1 hour, 35 minutes, and 28 seconds of work per month to afford it, in contrast to Luxembourg, which has the most affordable mobile internet. In e-infrastructure readiness, Bangladesh ranks 84th, with moderate internet penetration at 77% and network readiness ranking 87th. E-security has also declined, with Bangladesh now in 85th place. In e-government services, it ranks 73rd, falling behind India but surpassing Pakistan. In Asia, Bangladesh is 25th, with Singapore leading the region in digital quality of life.
