State-owned telecommunications company Teletalk in Bangladesh has experienced a consistent decline in active mobile connections from September 2022 to August 2023, in contrast to other private mobile operators in the country. In August 2023, the total number of active mobile connections in Bangladesh reached 18.86 crore, compared to 18.74 crore in July 2023.
Major private operators witnessed growth in their customer bases during this period. Grameenphone increased from 8.18 crore to 8.21 crore of active mobile connections; Robi Axiata increased from 5.68 crore to 5.73 crore; and Banglalink rose from 4.23 crore to 4.27 crore.
However, Teletalk’s active connections decreased from 64.7 lakh in July 2023 to 64.5 lakh in August 2023. The company lost 3.3 lakh mobile connections due to network coverage issues, but expressed optimism about reversing the trend with the implementation of 5G technology and the installation of new network towers.
