Television sales in Bangladesh have seen a 30% decline in September 2023 compared to the same month last year, despite the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup. The market attributes this downturn to economic challenges, with a 9.02% rise in the Consumer Price Index, marking the highest average inflation rate in 12 years.
TV prices have surged by 32% over the past year due to currency devaluation. High-end TVs with screens over 55 inches are faring better than regular ones. Companies like Transcom Digital and Samsung are employing discounts, gifts, and match tickets to stimulate sales. However, the overall economic instability and customers’ limited funds post-FIFA World Cup purchases are hindering TV sales during the cricket tournament.
