Jashore district has successfully introduced the high-yielding paddy variety Bina Dhan-25 across approximately three acres in eight upazilas, yielding an impressive average of 24 maunds per bigha. Farmers from Jhikargacha upazila have reported excellent yields, with 22 maunds of seeds retained for future planting and profitable seed sales. The rice variety requires fewer fertilizers and pesticides, making it cost-effective for farmers.
Despite minor setbacks such as Mazra insect infestations, the desired yield was achieved, highlighting the paddy’s disease tolerance and short growth cycle. The Agriculture Department plans to promote Bina-25 nationwide, with the goal of capturing the fine rice market. This season, Bina-25 was cultivated experimentally on eight bighas of land across Jashore, yielding an average of 7.23 tonnes per hectare. The harvested paddy will serve as seeds for other farmers, ensuring wider adoption of this promising variety.
