Private companies operating coal-based power plants in Bangladesh must commence commercial production by June 30, 2024, to qualify for a 15-year tax exemption. The government has extended the previous deadline by one year, allowing companies that couldn’t start commercial production by June 30, 2023, to benefit from the tax exemption. Foreign employees working in these companies will also receive a three-year tax exemption. Additionally, these companies will enjoy tax exemptions on interest from loans, royalties, technical know-how, technical assistance fees, and capital gains from share transfers involving foreign partners. Similarly, foreign employees working on the Elevated Expressways, developed through public-private partnerships, will receive a three-year tax exemption, with their income exempt from taxation until June 2026.
