The Chattogram Custom House is set to auction off 28 tonnes of buffalo meat on 10th October, imported from India by NB Trading. The reserve price for the 27,980 kilograms of frozen meat is fixed at Tk 2.45 crore.
The auction, commencing on 10th October, follows the importer’s failure to claim the consignment within the stipulated time. The meat, housed in a 40-foot reefer container at New Mooring Container Terminal, carries an expiry date of December 31 this year. Customs authorities engaged in publicizing the auction through market visits and product display, adhering to regulations.
Importers are required to collect goods within 30 days post-unloading: failure triggers customs intervention, leading to a 15-day notice for delivery. The auction aims to recover costs and manage the abandoned import appropriately.
