The regional farmers’ association proposed selling eggs at 12 Taka each in 20 capital locations, awaiting government approval. The Bangladesh Poultry Association (BPA) submitted a request to the Consumer Rights Protection Directorate.
The directorate is reviewing the proposal for a decision on the capital’s egg pricing. BPA plans to sell eggs at the government-approved rate, coordinating with regional farmers for supply to 20 locations. If approved, the initiative aims to start next week, benefiting farmers and potentially reducing market prices. Previously, sugar sales were permitted, and now the farmers’ group proposes egg sales.
However, program details are pending. The Ministry of Commerce set prices for onions, potatoes, and eggs on September 14, but despite efforts, market rates remain high. The government granted 15 million egg import permissions, but none have arrived yet.
