The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) in Bangladesh has taken steps to reduce the submission of fake financial statements by listed companies by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (ICAB). This MoU aims to curtail the common practice of preparing separate financial statements for different authorities, often with varying figures.
The DSE will now have access to the Document Verification System (DVS), which allows for the verification of financial documents submitted by listed companies. This move is expected to enhance transparency and accuracy in financial reporting and contribute to improved corporate governance in the country.
Various regulatory bodies, including the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission, the Financial Reporting Council, the National Board of Revenue, and the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies, already have access to the DVS, which was developed by ICAB and became operational in January 2020.
