A study conducted by the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) indicates that the renewable energy sector in Bangladesh could generate more than 9,300 jobs by 2030, driven by the government’s target to produce at least 6,000 MW of electricity from renewable sources, such as solar and wind power.
Currently employing approximately 4,500 individuals, the renewable energy workforce could expand significantly with the adoption of the Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan. The CPD’s research underscores the need for a comprehensive plan to enhance workforce skills, provide proper training, and revise university curricula to meet the demand for skilled manpower.
To support the transition, interdisciplinary skills encompassing various fields, including renewable energy technicians, energy analysts, and cybersecurity experts, will be required. The study also urges redesigning academic programs, fostering collaboration between academia and industry, and conducting further research on emerging challenges.
