The government plans to import an additional liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo from the international spot market in November to meet rising energy demands. Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Ltd (RPGCL) received approval for the tender to purchase the cargo, which will be delivered to the Moheshkhali floating, storage, and re-gasification unit.
This move will bring Bangladesh’s total LNG imports from the spot market to ten in the current fiscal year 2022-2023. Additionally, the RPGCL aims to import another LNG cargo in December as the country prepares for the general election in January 2024. Despite some payment delays, Bangladesh continues to import LNG from both long-term and spot suppliers to meet its energy needs.
