The winter vegetable market in Jessore is experiencing price fluctuations for cauliflower, cabbage, radish, eggplant, bottle gourd, pointed gourd, and pumpkin. Although prices had recently stabilized, a three-day strike has disrupted vegetable transportation, raising costs from seven to eight thousand taka.
The largest wholesale market in Barinagar Bazar sees traders and farmers facing challenges due to increased transportation expenses. Eggplants are priced at 25-30 taka/kg, radish at 22-28 taka, pointed gourd at 28-30 taka, bottle gourd at 22-25 taka, and spinach at 16 taka. The strike has led to financial losses for farmers, affecting the entire supply chain. Vegetable wholesalers report increased transportation costs, with a rise from 16-22 thousand taka to 22-30 thousand taka for sending four to seven tons of vegetables to Dhaka. Jessore, contributing to 65% of the country’s vegetable production, has cultivated one-third of the targeted 17 thousand hectares for winter vegetables.
