Bangladesh’s Agriculture Minister, has announced that the country will not need to import rice this year due to successful agricultural mechanization efforts, resulting in sufficient rice production. Traditionally, rice prices tend to rise during the Ashwin and Kartik months in the Bangla calendar year, but in 2023 , prices are on the decline.
Minister made these remarks during a seminar titled “Transformation of agriculture in Bangladesh: contribution of Kazi M Badruddoza,” held at the Cirdap auditorium in the capital and organized by the Bangladesh Agricultural Journalists Forum. He emphasized that low rice prices this year are providing some relief to the impoverished and low-income segments of the population. Typically, these groups spend a significant portion, approximately 65 to 70 percent, of their income on purchasing rice. This year’s reduced rice prices offer a promising development for their economic well-being.
