Pran-RFL Group, a major conglomerate in Bangladesh with an annual turnover of approximately $3 billion, has announced significant investments in renewable energy to promote sustainability. The group plans to install rooftop solar panels on all its infrastructure and establish a solar power plant on water bodies in Sreemangal, Moulvibazar. These water bodies, currently used for pisciculture, will be repurposed for clean energy generation. Pran-RFL Group aims to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and lower carbon emissions.
The group will adopt a net energy metering (NEM) policy, allowing excess electricity generated from solar panels to be fed back into the national grid. Pran-RFL currently consumes about 200MW of electricity monthly, with approximately half coming from the national grid and the rest produced by captive generators.
The rooftop solar panel project is expected to require a Tk250 crore investment and generate 67MW of clean energy. Details regarding the cost of the Sreemangal floating solar plant project are yet to be estimated.
