Excelerate Energy has temporarily halted LNG re-gasification at its plant in Bangladesh for an overhaul and capacity expansion. The floating storage and re-gasification unit, Excellence, which is the first of its kind in Bangladesh, has been taken offline for long-overdue renovation work. This maintenance is the first of its kind since the unit began commercial operations in 2018. After the overhaul, the re-gasification capacity will increase by 20% to 4.5 million tonnes per annum or 600 million cubic feet per day. During the maintenance, Bangladesh’s overall LNG re-gasification capacity will fall, impacting gas supply, and reliance on Summit’s FSRU alone will be necessary. Energy shortages and frequent power outages are anticipated during this period.
