In Rajshahi city, a concerning surge in vegetable prices has impacted consumers, with prices rising by 10 to 15 taka per kilogram in the past week. Most vegetables now exceed the 70 taka mark, prompting dissatisfaction among buyers who perceive a shortage in the market.
Notably, local onions are priced at 100 taka per kilogram, a five taka increase, while green chilies rose by 20 taka to 140 taka. Potatoes are at 55 taka, and garlic reached 190 to 200 taka. The overall price hike, attributed to reduced supply, is impacting vendors who cite the need to cover increased costs. Buyers express distress over the escalating prices, urging authorities to intervene. Monitoring officer Afrin Hossain acknowledges a shortage in supply and anticipates stabilization soon.
